Typically I go to a painting workshop on Monday evenings, where we paint from a live model. Since this past Monday was Memorial day, there was no workshop and I needed to get my painting fill. Since then, I've been painting like crazy. I did three portraits of myself in front of the mirror, using oils and then I've been doing a bunch of little hour-long paintings in Photoshop in between my free lance work. It's so encouraging to see the progression and how going to the workshop every week this past year has really improved my skills as an artist. My peers often come up to me to ask for the secret to improving their values, colors, etc; my answer most of the time is "Go Paint!". Even though I've only been painting for a short while, the benefits have been significant. I still have a long way to go, and much to learn, but the journey is the best part. There's little more satisfying than coming away from a painting session knowing you learned something new.
Anyway, these are a few of the digital paintings I did over the last day or so. Each was done in about 60 min. If I get new batteries for my camera, I might post some oil paintings as well. To all my peers and fellow artist, "go out there and paint!".
